A listed heritage building, Achnagairn castle has been through a lot. From being the set of the Outlander series to a World War II hospital, it’s seen it’s fair share of history. Now, it’s a magically romantic place where every room is bursting with charm and character.

Castle Leslie Estate, Ireland

We might have saved the best ‘til last. The Mauve Master Room at Castle Leslie is not only beautiful, but it has an incredible history of royals and rock stars. After 150 years, the room is unchanged. With white furniture designed by Sir John Leslie himself, a stunningly ornate mantelpiece mirror and a gorgeous shade of mauve on the walls, it might just be the most perfect bridal suite to exist.

Over the years, the Mauve Room has seen the likes of Queen Margaret of Sweden, The Duke and Duchess of Connaught (one of Queen Victoria’s sons), Prince Pierre of Monaco (the father of Prince Rainier III) and Prince Kessee, a prince of a pre-war African kingdom. Mick Jagger and Marianne Faithful also stayed in the suite in the 1960s where he was besieged by visiting school girls!
