We are often asked why we don’t participate in sales, and with Black Friday just around the corner, we wanted to share our reasons as to why we choose quality over discounts.

Over the past few years as we approach Christmas, we see an abundance of companies offering seemingly unbelievable discount codes and Black Friday deals just in time for some festive shopping.

This day has sprawled further into Cyber Monday, and although many offers have been debunked, there is still an alluring element to saving a bit of money here and there.

Getting swept up in the excitement and marketing of the day, we often find ourselves asking if it is really worth compromising on quality for a bit of spare change?

Why Choose A High-Quality Armoire Over a Discounted Piece of Furniture?

"The bitterness of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of a low price is forgotten"

Benjamin Franklin

We don’t believe there is any substitute for quality. All of our pieces from French style wardrobes, dressing tables, bedside drawers through to our luxury French beds are handmade by master craftsmen.

Every piece of furniture bought from French Bedroom has been carefully handcrafted and painted, so you know that it is unique and original to you. The prices we charge are reflective of the work and skill that goes into each piece; therefore, we don’t believe in discounting these items and diminishing that hard work.

Events like Black Friday have an extremely detrimental effect on craftmanship. High quality retailers are unable to compete as they simply cannot cut their prices due to the work and cost that goes into them.

Many high street retailers mass produce their furniture, and have been known to reduce the quality of their product for discount days like Black Friday - so there is a chance that the armoires and wardrobes or the bed that you receive may actually be of a lesser quality than normal.

We know many people ask themselves: how can a product can be discounted so much, and still have value? The answer is, it can't.

However, a low price alters the perceived risk in making a purchase. It means people are encouraged to not think through their commitment. The question of how it is so cheap, is soon taken over by the perceived 'value' of the deal, the low price.

Many furniture pieces from high street retailers will need to be replaced more frequently due to poor quality, likely due to cost saving measures such as cheaper materials, overlooked finishing processes and mass production. Although you may save 20% on an armoire in a Black Friday sale, is it not best to invest in an armoire that will last a lifetime?

French Bedroom's Anti-Black Friday Pledge.

Your home is your sanctuary and safe place, and where you spend the majority of your time. At French Bedroom, we believe it’s important to truly love and invest in your furniture.

"If you're not paying a fair price for your Black Friday deal, someone else is bearing the cost - the artisans, and the planet."

Georgia Metcalfe, Founder & Creative Director - French Bedroom

We have built our brand on premium quality products and exemplary customer service. We strive to supply our customers with the most beautiful products and ensure they can enjoy their furniture not just for Christmas, but for years to come.

Our larger furniture pieces, such as wardrobes and beds, are investments, designed to be handed down to generations for years to come.

By steering away from Black Friday sales, we back our ‘buy it once’ mantra. So our customers know when they’re purchasing a French Bedroom wardrobe or bed, it is a legacy piece that will last a lifetime and beyond.

Say no to Black Friday.

Say yes to quality and sustainability.
