Falling for Floral Print

Spring is here, it's no longer an optimistic mirage. Snowdrops have surfaced, crocuses are spattering colour across our lawns, we hear lawnmowers in the distance and catkins are swaying in the (slightly) warmed breeze. We take one look at the - still a bit chilly - sun drenched floral eruption happening outside our windows and want to bring that freshness in. Cue the hottest emerging interior's trend - a hark back to nature and life - natural woods softened with pretty floral prints.

With tech playing such a big part of our lives, it's no wonder we're looking at 'prints from the past' with a verdant vibe, to soothe our weary, over stimulated minds and remind us of a simpler time. We crave the feeling of grass between our toes, the whisper of the trees swaying and the smell of freshly mown grass.

Of course, there's a floral sweet spot. Too much floral and it can feel like we're back in 1983 with matching pelmets, drapes, valances and bedspreads. So we've gathered some inspiration on how to spread just enough floral cheer in your home without feeling botanically bonkers.

We're of the belief that you can't go wrong with a floral or two in any room. Whether you're softening a minimalist, Scandi-style home with a floral cushion on your luxury bed; brimming with botanicals in a maximalist abode assisted by dramatic floral bedding or, styling a classic period property brimming with French style furniture using some timeless Morris & Co print, there's a floral for all.

Nostalgic Ditsy Print

Classic & Pretty Home Accessories

Over the past few years, the floaty, floral dress has had a style revival on catwalks and the streets, with fashionistas opting for a classically femme print for all occasions. Formerly the reserve of WI members, the re-invention of the floral dress has seen it paired with chunky boots and denim jackets for a fresh look. Now it's the turn of our homes - pairing pretty, dainty floral prints with bold, jewel toned velvet and luxe metallic accessories helps give the ditsy print a sophisticated edge.

Stylist's tip: Pick one of the bolder colours within the print and bring it to life with layers of cosy throws and bedroom cushions in similar tones. Don't be afraid to give your ditsy prints a rock-edge with a clean-lined, gold side table or luxury console table - warm metallics such as gold and brass will mirror the yellow and cream tones often found within a dainty floral print; then add natural textures like sheepskin rugs and fluffy cushions for warmth and a touch of boho-chic.

Oversized Floral Drama

Bold Bedding

The perfect way to immediately add some dramatic, flower power to your bedroom is with bold, over-sized floral print bedding. The deep, rich colours will add depth to a cool toned, neutral scheme or add another theatrical layer to a maximalist look. Romantically cool, all in one look.

Stylist's Tip: give dramatic florals a truly luxe feel with jewel coloured velvet throws and cushions to pump up the drama.
