Often, it's not easy to come up with a vibe of a room overnight, it can take years of living with a space and your pieces to know what will go where and with what. I've found it less taxing on the interiors part of my brain (I'm sure there's a technical-latin name for this cortex) to take a similar approach to that of putting together an outfit - layers! Nothing feels better than when you step out of the front door, knowing you've got the colours, textures, scale and ambiance right; be it the knowledge your statement Ganni jumper gives the right edge to your Stella relaxed trousers with a punchy kick from your Kors camo killer pumps or the fact that your Big Wig sofa looks cool and chic with the addition of some Adam Slade Cushions, accompanied by a Hide & Seek Trunk and a Fight Me Candelabra. Layers are the way to think things through and to give a well thought out design to your home, working from the walls and floors, to the French bed and armoire, to the finishing touches of cushions and table lamps.
We recently held a photoshoot for our beautiful Normandy rattan bed and worked with the layers principle to obtain a shabby chic, pretty, soft toned set - here's how we achieved this look.....

Summer Palace Wallpaper, from Laura Ashley from £16.20 per roll;
