Mint Velvet's Autumn Style Guide

We've team up with the fabulous Mint Velvet to giveaway a £250 voucher in our latest competition to spend on their covetous new AW14 collection, but whilst emails were flying back and forth, we thought we'd take advantage of their fashion know-how and get some top Autumn styling tips...

At Mint Velvet we believe in everyday luxe; our collections are underpinned with our signature relaxed glamour handwriting, enabling women to look effortlessly stylish on the busiest of days. We take the catwalk trends and relax them, creating wearable clothes which are sophisticated yet carefree.

The Colours

The catwalks have spoken - this season's colour is red.  For a grown-up take, try sultry and sophisticated deep red; it's the perfect colour for the change of the seasons.  At Mint Velvet we have opted for a deep wine red for some grown up glamour.  Team it with your black separates for a vampy autumnal look or, if you feel brave, go for a head-to-toe look.  And, for those who prefer a hint of colour, try a sexy court, clutch bag or belt.  Think of matching your dress with your favourite bottle of vintage Merlot...

The Catwalk

The 90's trend seen on the catwalks has really brought the layered look back into focus, and this season layering has gone luxe.  Play with different sleeve lengths, dresses with double layering and longline sheer shirts over shorter basics.  These work well in a grungy colour palette of greys, black and khaki.

The Clutch

The clutch continues to be a firm favourite in the fashion stakes, and we're loving all things tactile. Ponyskin is a great way to inject some luxury into your after dark look; try the Alita ponyskin clutch or the Naomi clutch with its ultra-cool leather fringing.

The Coat

Although we seem to have experienced an endless summer, hiding around the corner are the blustery winds of autumn.  Be prepared by choosing a key investment coat.  A coat is not just an 'add-on' item, if carefully chosen, it can really make an outfit.  It's always best to go with something that suits your lifestyle and can complement a variety of outfits.  If you admire Kate Moss's urban grunge look, opt for a parka with a fur hood and enough pockets for your stylish essentials.  Or, if structured sophistication is more your style statement, choose a classic double breasted or boucle style coat.  If you are known for your edgy styling, a biker style with asymmetric zip detail will be right up your ally!
