The differences between British, European and American mattress sizes can cause unnecessary stress, so to ensure you get the right size mattress for your bed, we’ve put together this easy-to-understand guide. Put simply, both sizes and terminology associated with choosing your perfect mattress are completely different in the UK, the rest of Europe and on the other side of the pond in America. UK MATTRESS SIZES

Single (90 x 190cm)

The UK Single measures 90 x 190cm. Ideal for the solo sleeper, children or young adults, the single bed is the perfect addition to any average to small bedroom leaving plenty of floor space free!

Double (135 x 190cm)

The Double is a popular size for couples as this bed easily accommodates 2 people, however, would also be perfect for individuals just looking for a bit more room! It measures 135 x 190cm making the UK’s Double slightly smaller than our European and American friends’ version. Our double is comfortable yet practical as it does not take up too much space in the bedroom.

King (150 x 200cm)

The King is the most popular size amongst couples and adults that have a little bit of extra space both in the width and length. As King size beds are longer than double beds, they’re perfect for people who could do with some extra leg room, measuring 150 x 200cm.

Super King (180 x 200cm)

The Super King offers ultimate comfort and luxury with some added width. The Super king is 180 x 200cm making it wider than the king and it is ideal for a master bedroom making for the perfect sleeping space.

Emperor (215 x 215cm)

The Emperor is the largest mattress size in the UK, measuring an impressive 215 x 215cm (that’s 7ft by 7ft!). Perfect for those of us looking for the ultimate in luxury, an emperor bed not only makes a style statement, but it allows you to relax, stretch out and sleep in an unbeatable amount of space. It is also ideal for any family to enjoy all together for those quiet family mornings or to cuddle up and watch a film.

EUROPEAN MATTRESS SIZES

Single (90 x 200 cm)

The Single size is best suited to children and young adults measuring at 90 x 200cm, longer than that of the UK size single making it suited to children as they grow into their teenage years!

Double (140 x 200 cm)

The Double is the next size up from the single over a ⅓ of extra width measuring 140 x 200 cm. It enables the accommodation of couples or individuals who want more room. It works well for bedrooms that cannot comfortably fit a King bed.

King (160 x 200 cm)

The King is well suited for couples, allowing space for both people with added width whilst maintaining length. It measures at 160 x 200 cm, making this size perfect for a master bedroom.

Grande King (180 x 200 cm)

The Grande King is for couples looking for a spacious bed, providing more than enough room for each person to stretch out comfortably. Measuring 180 x 200cm the added width makes the mattress an ideal place to rest and relax as well as sleep, perfect for couples or individuals with more bedroom space. The Grande King is the equivalent of the UK’s Super King.

Super King (200 x 200 cm)

The biggest mattress in the European range is the Super King. Offering comfort and luxury, it measures in at 200cm x 200cm, ideal for those wanting to make the bedroom a sanctuary of serene relaxation. You’ll notice that it’s not quite as luxurious as the emperor bed in the UK, losing 15cm on both width and length.

Single (98 x 189cm)

The Single is the smallest size of bed at 98 x 189cm ideal young children and small individuals. A great bed for children to allow them to utilize more of the floor space of the room.

Double (136 x 189 cm)

The Double mattress provides a good compromise between a Single and a Queen. Measuring 136 x 189cm this bed is great for a solo sleeper looking for more room but is also a decent size for couples. This size is also very practical for saving floor space in bedrooms.

Queen (152 x 202 cm)

The Queen size mattress is a better match for individuals who want to stretch out with more width as well as length as the queen is longer than the double. The Queen measures 152 x 202cm and is a perfectly suited and size mattress for couples, still allowing floor space in the average size bedroom.

King (193 x 202 cm)

The King mattress is wider than the Queen mattress providing a more much more spacious feel. The King is 193 x 202 cm better for couples with more bedroom space. In UK terms, this bed is somewhere between a Super King and an Emperor.

California (183 x 212 cm)

The California mattress is a longer mattress making it the preferable choice for taller couples or individuals. Measuring 183 x 212cm it provides the combination to achieve the ultimate sleeping experience. In comparison, a California mattress isn’t as big as the UK’s emperor mattress size.
